Buttonwood Belize is located inside Hopkins Village instead of the Hotel Zones outside the village. It offers an authentic Belizean beachfront experience with clean and comfortable rooms just steps from the sea, inland and offshore adventures, and easy walking access anywhere in Hopkins. Guests also have access to the saltwater pool at Coconut Row Boutique Hotel (3 blocks south of Buttonwood) and can charge meals to their room at The Coconut Husk, also located at Coconut Row Boutique Hotel.

We usually close in September for maintenance and vacations. Otherwise, we're open year round and happy to have you.

What types of accommodations are available at Buttonwood Belize?

Buttonwood Belize offers three beautiful units with king beds and a futon, as well as a large studio apartment and a small two-bedroom apartment. There is also a large and well-furnished suite add-on available for the king rooms, with a full kitchen and living room. All units feature private bathrooms, air conditioning, Wi-Fi and TVs (account access for Netflix etc. only). We also have beachfront rooms at our sister property, Coconut Row Boutique Hotel.

While there is no on-site pool, guests have access to the saltwater pool at Coconut Row Boutique Hotel , which is a few minutes’ walk away.

What will the weather be like? What if it rains all the time?

Even during the rainy season (June - Dec), it's very rare that we'll have steady rain all the time. Normally it's brief showers followed by sun, and we never let that interfere with our fun! Word of warning - weather apps or Google often show rain the whole time during the rainy season, and they're almost never correct!

What power and electrical sockets do you have?

Our electricity is the same standard as the US, so American and Canadian visitors will have no trouble. Visitors from Europe may need an adapter.

Is it better to book my tours in advance or when I arrive?

Accepted Answer

It's generally better to book tours in advance. During the busy season (Christmas to Easter), tours tend to fill up quickly and it is sometimes difficult to book last minute. During the slow season, captains, guides and drivers tend to travel if they don't have work booked, so the advance booking guarantees that arrangements have been made. Having said that, we will do our best to accommodate any tour request you might have.

There is no on-site restaurant at Buttonwood Belize, but we have a fantastic restaurant called The Coconut Husk at Coconut Row Boutique Hotel, offering fresh, local cuisine and tropical drinks. Buttonwood Belize guests can charge all food and drinks to their room bill if desired.

Yes, Buttonwood Belize can accommodate group bookings and assist with weddings and events. Please contact us directly with your request, and we can help you work out the details.

Is smoking permitted?

All of our rooms are non-smoking, and anyone found to have smoked inside the room will be subject to a deep-cleaning fee. Smoking outside or on your veranda is permitted.

We highly recommend purchasing travel insurance, as we cannot be responsible for shortened stays or cancellations due to flight problems, inclement weather or other problems affecting travel. Where do I check in?

Please go to Coconut Row Boutique Hotel to check in. We will do your paperwork and orientation there, and give you a welcome drink. We will then take you over to Buttonwood Belize to check you into your room.

How do I get to Buttonwood Belize from the Belize International Airport (BZE)?

We are happy to pick you up at the airport and shuttle you here; it's roughly a two-hour drive. We can also arrange for you to take a small plane to Dangriga, then pick you up for the final half-hour drive to Hopkins. Contact us to arrange.

What happens if my flight is delayed and I have a shuttle picking me up?

Please notify us as soon as your flight is delayed.  Send us an email, call us or message us via WhatsApp or our Vamoos App.  The driver needs to leave several hours before you arrive to pick you up, so it is vital that we receive notice of a delay before he leaves.

We do allow early check-ins once your room is ready.  Until then, we are happy to store your luggage so that you can sit at the restaurant, relax by the pool, chill at the beach, or explore the village.

Buttonwood Belize can arrange a variety of activities including inland tours (like waterfall hikes, Mayan ruins, and cave tubing), cultural experiences (like drumming lessons), and marine adventures (like snorkeling, diving, and fishing on the Belize Barrier Reef). We can also arrange a relaxing massage on your veranda, call a golf cart for you to explore the village, and recommend the best places for nightly entertainment, depending on the day.

Will my stay be quiet or noisy?

Please understand that Buttonwood Belize is in the middle of Hopkins, and there is definitely a vibrant village life in the evenings.  There is a local drumming center and several bars near to Buttonwood, and although there is usually not a problem with the sound, it does occasionally happen.  Please let us know if you experience any issues.

How do I get around Hopkins?

Hopkins stretches about a mile in each direction from Buttonwood Belize, so it's pretty easy to walk.  However, we are happy to call for a golf cart rental for you to make it even easier and more relaxing.

Is Hopkins Village safe for tourists?  Can we walk at night?

Yes, Hopkins is considered one of the safest and friendliest villages in Belize. You will encounter no issues walking the village at night.  But of course, like everywhere, use common sense when making decisions.

Do I need to bring Belizean currency?

You really don't need Belizean currency, as US dollars are accepted by anyone.  The rate is 1 USD to 2 BZD.

How late are the stores and restaurants open?

Grocery stores open at 8 am and close at 8 pm. Restaurants generally close somewhere between 9 and 11 pm during the busy season, though it often depends on the number of customers they have on any given night. During the low season, you'll want to eat by 9 pm most nights.

How are the bugs?

Honestly, the bugs won’t be as bad as you think. We generally enjoy a great sea breeze, which keeps bugs away. If there is no breeze, you will get some mosquitos and sand flies, especially at dusk. While the bugs are generally mild at our place, be sure to bring some bug spray, socks and long pants in case you go elsewhere. If you’re going out to eat, the sea breeze is usually much less at the street. And if you go hiking in the jungle, it’s best to spray up!

Is the water drinkable and safe?

Yes, the water is totally potable! It's treated at the water tank in the village, and not one of our thousands of guests has ever had a problem. For those guests who wish to stick to bottled water, we do sell water at the bar, and there is a grocery store across the street.  But you should have no worries about drinking the village water.

Please inquire at the front desk.  Depending on the room's check-in for that day, we may be able to extend your check-out time.  If we cannot, we will happily store your luggage until you are ready to depart.
